Dana,

I live in the balance of that as well. But I think Jurgen Moltmann sheds light on maybe the "gap" that we are standing in:

"That is why faith, wherever it develops into hope, causes not rest, but unrest, not patience but impatience. It does not calm the unquiet heart, but is itself this unquiet heart in man. Those who hope in Christ can no longer put up with reality as it is, but begin to suffer under it, to contradict it...the goad of the promised future stabs inexorably into the flesh of every unfulfilled present...that we do not reconcile ourselves [with things as they are], that there is no pleasant harmony between us and reality, is due to our unquenchable hope."
- Jurgen Moltmann, Theology of Hope, pp. 21-22

Basically, we live a world in which we know is not the way God intended it and because of the hope and potential we see in the world (maybe the glimpses of God working in the world) we grow inpatient with the transforming of the world. I see so much evil in the world, that is true. But man those glimpses of a better world....I see so much more.

I'm the meaning in your life? I'm your inspiration? LOL

Okay, what you've written here is something that I'm really struggling with here lately. I want to actively participate in this loving the whole world that you're talking about. But I find myself angry at those that are standing in the way. Like my thoughts are that maybe it would be helpful if we could string some people up in a tree and reenact the KKK for those that haven't been oppressed so that maybe they could learn to have compassion for those that haven't had the same start in life that we have had.. But, I'm pretty sure that my thinking that way is the same sort of hatefulness that I am angry at them for which makes me, in turn, no better than they. Which is ironic because the reason that I think that it's okay is because I think I am better than they. Which is hypocritical because the thing that makes me the most angry is their self-righteousness. And, doesn't that make self-righteous myself?

How can I love these people? How can I be at peace about this? Because right now:

"I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round".

Yeah, so anyway... I hope there aren't kids that have been in youth ministry reading this :).

I'm so glad that you are back to blogging. My blogging world is quickly becoming too much about taking off those last few baby pounds.. Who cares?

My prayer is not to petition God,but rather to serve Him as Jesus served his Father.
1. For give me Father, I am sorry that I have done my will all of my llfe instead of doing your will.
2. From this day forward I make my covenant with you to do your will and to serve only you.
3. Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit if we asked in his name, I claim the gift of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.
4.Satan I rebuke thee. In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit you are cast out. Be gone Satan, in the name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit you are defeated..
5. Father, heal and restore this temple so that I may be a witness to the power of your Spirit.
6. Let it all be done to glorify thy name and to bring praise to Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Yet another great book to read is Myth of A Christian Nation by Greg Boyd. I wrote about a similar subject on my blog. The church and politics are in no way married.

The main thing is that we do as we should as individuals. Jesus is our example for that.

Thanks for your blog.

I really enjoyed your post. I have felt like Tony Campolo for many years now (quote below). I plan to "use" his comments when I'm asked in the future. It will be a difficult decision on Nov. on which "lever" to pull or which button to push. Thank you for the insight.

“My contention is that if anybody asks if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, the answer should be, ‘Please name the issue,’” he says. “On certain issues, I’m going to come across as someone who likes what the Republicans say, and on other issues I will come across as saying what the Democrats say.”
